31.10.2025 : De heer Constantijn Labordus gaf ons inzage in zijn familiealbums. Hij is de kleinzoon van kruidenier Labordus die in de jaren dertig een kruidenierszaak begon in voorkamer van het woonhuis Buys Ballotstraat 59. English follows the Dutch text
De woonkamer met piano lag achter de winkel. Vanuit de achtertuin keek je toen de weilanden in richting Kanaalweg. "Ze hadden expres geen telefoon, want anders kon je op zaterdagavond gebeld worden voor een pond kaas en bleek je bezig. Ook hadden ze de TV-antenne niet op het dak, maar onzichtbaar op zolder, anders leek het of ze rijk waren." In 1945 was de kruidenier één van de distributiepunten van gedropt voedsel. Na plotseling overlijden van opa in 1963 werd de zaak gesloten. "Toen het weer woonkamer werd, kon je niet meer voorstellen dat het ooit winkel was geweest."

Mr. Constantijn Labordus gave us access to his family albums. He is the grandson of grocer Labordus, who opened a grocery store in the front room of the house at Buys Ballotstraat 59 in the 1930s. The living room, complete with a piano, was located behind the store. From the back garden, you could look out over the meadows towards Kanaalweg. "They deliberately didn't have a telephone, because otherwise you could be called on Saturday evening for a pound of cheese and it would be obvious you were busy. They also didn't have the TV antenna on the roof, but hidden in the attic, so they looked rich." In 1945, the grocer was one of the distribution points for dropped food. After his grandfather's sudden death in 1963, the business closed. "When it became a living room again, you couldn't imagine it had ever been a store."
