Vredeskerk viert 60-jarig jubileum met feestelijke bijeenkomst / Vredeskerk Celebrates 60th Anniversary with Festive Gathering

27.08.2025 : De Vredeskerk in Leiden bestaat in september 60 jaar. Sinds de naam in 1965 werd gekozen, staat de kerk symbool voor een verlangen naar blijvende vrede.

Op zaterdag 13 september om 15.30 uur vindt ter ere van dit jubileum een openbare bijeenkomst plaats in de Vredeskerk (Van Vollenhovenkade 24). Naast aandacht voor de historie van het gebouw, staat de onthulling van een gedenksteen bij de Vredesboom naast de kerk op het programma. Deze boom is opgekweekt uit zaad van een Japanse notenboom die de atoombom op Hiroshima heeft overleefd. Ook is er een presentatie bij de expositie van collages die gemaakt zijn voor het boek “Sprookjes uit Oekraïne”. Deze collages, die de oorlog in Oekraïne verbeelden, zullen dan in de kerk te zien zijn.

Met deze activiteiten blijft de Vredeskerk uitdrukking geven aan de hoop op vrede. Een ieder is voor deze bijeenkomst van harte uitgenodigd. Aanmelden voor de bijeenkomst is niet nodig.

Vredeskerk (Peace Church) celebrates 60th Anniversary with Festive Gathering
The Vredeskerk will celebrate its 60th anniversary in September. Since its name was chosen in 1965, the church has symbolized a desire for lasting peace.
A public gathering will be held in honor of this anniversary on Saturday, September 13th at 3:30 PM in the Vredeskerk (Van Vollenhovenkade 24). In addition to a focus on the building's history, the program will include the unveiling of a memorial stone at the Peace Tree next to the church. This tree was grown from seeds of a Japanese walnut tree that survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. There will also be a presentation at the exhibition of collages created for the book "Fairytales from Ukraine." These collages, which depict the war in Ukraine, will then be on display in the church.
With these activities, the Peace Church continues to express the hope for peace. Everyone is cordially invited to this gathering. Registration for the gathering is not required.
